Japan’s gross domestic product grows 1% in January-March, above forecast

LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) — Japan’s economy grew 1.0% during the January-March quarter, or 4.1% on an annualized basis, official data showed Thursday, with the results beating expectations for a 3.5% annualized gain, according to separate Dow Jones Newswires and Reuters surveys. Hong Kong stocks dive early on Greek political crisis; Hang Seng Index down 1.8%

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Hong Kong shares opened sharply lower on Wednesday as news that Greece would be facing fresh elections next month after a failed attempt to form a government hurt investor sentiment, dragging on stocks across the board. The benchmark Hang Seng Index (HK:HSI) slumped 2% to 19,488.70, giving back more than twice of what it gained Tuesday, when the index snapped out of an eight-day losing run. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 2.1% to 9,874.48, while the mainland’s Shanghai Composite Index (CN:SHCOMP) shed 0.3% to 2,367.86.

Facebook reportedly raising IPO size by 85 million shares

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) — Facebook Inc. plans to increase the size of its initial public offering by 85 million shares to about 422 million, in a move that could raise the size of its upcoming offer to more than $15 billion, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing a source familiar with the matter. The social network website plans to sell the shares in an indicative range of $34 to $38 apiece, having increased it from an earlier range of $28 to $35 a share.
