Gap posts 18% higher per-share profit

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Gap Inc. /quotes/zigman/227242 /quotes/nls/gps GPS -2.92% reported late Thursday its fiscal first-quarter profit was unchanged at $233 million from year-ago results. On a per-share basis, however, the results were up 18% at 47 cents a share compared with 40 cents a year ago, reflecting a 17% drop in the number of outstanding shares.

Autodesk reports 15.5% earnings gain

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Autodesk Inc. /quotes/zigman/68719 /quotes/nls/adsk ADSK -3.23% on Thursday reported a fiscal first-quarter profit of $78.9 million, or 34 cents a share, on revenue of $588.6 million, compared with earnings of $69.3 million, or 29 cents a share, on $528.3 million in sales in the same period a year ago. Excluding one-time items, Autodesk would have earned 47 cents a share, which met the estimates of analysts surveyed by FactSet Research, who also forecast the company to post sales of $586.4 million for the quarter
